Topic: Many people argue that in order to improve educational quality, high school students are encouraged to make comments or even criticism on their teachers. Others, however, think it will lead to loss of respect and discipline in the classroom. Disuss both views and give your own opinion.

It would be argued by some people that in order to increase educational quality, high school students should be free to evaluate their teachers in classrooms. In my opinion, however, this action could lead to a loss of respect and discipline in their classes.

On the one hand, there are a number of reasons why some people believe that student’s commentaries toward their teachers are beneficial in terms of improving educational quality. Firstly, if students are allowed to make comments on their teachers, this will give teachers more chances to get to know their students’ learning needs, hence, they would have appropriate teaching methods to meet those needs. Secondly, feedback from students would prevent teachers from becoming too complacent because they know that they will be evaluated regularly. By doing so, teachers’ teaching styles and methods will be improved continuously, which contributes to the improvement of the teaching and learning environment as a whole.

On the other hand, I would argue that encouraging students to make a complaint, comment or even criticism on their teachers could lead to subjective evaluations. This is because some students might assess their teachers based on their own feelings and preferences instead of their teacher’s contributions or teaching techniques. For instance, a student might evaluate his teacher’s performance as poor just because he does not like the teacher’s fashion style. Another problem is that teachers would find it more difficult to punish disruptive students since they are afraid of being given a poor rating, which could have a negative impact on their teaching career.

In conclusion, although the assessments of students are useful, I personally think that its drawbacks outweigh its benefits.
