Some people think that it is good for a country's culture to import foreign movies and TV programmes. Others think that it is better to produce these locally.

It is true that some people are interested in importing movies and TV programmes from overseas, rather than producing these within their own country. While many people argue that these imports contribute much to the culture of a country. I believe that it is better to develop national entertainment industry.
On the one hand, there are a variety of reasons why it is often argued that foreign movies and TV programmes are helpful to the mental life of people in a country. One reason is that when watching these entertainment products, people could learn more about other cultures all over the world. The Korean film ‘Ki Empress’, for example, is based on a historical story about a Goryeo-born woman who ascended to power and became the empress of Mongolia despite the restrictions of the era’s class system, which makes foreign viewers know more about the Eastern feudal system. Moreover, watching oversea films and TV shows like ‘Friends’, ‘ How I met your mother’, ‘The American Voice’ and so on is a effective way to improve knowledge of other languages.
On the other hand, I am in favour of the view that films and TV programmes should be encouraged to produe locally for many reasons. Firstly, in terms of education, they could educate people about their own culture and history and promote national pride. In stead of studying boring history lessons on texrbooks, students would watch films. Secondly, in terms of entertainment, local TV shows and film are relevant to culture and experience of home audience. Even if these use copyright ideas from other countries, national producers can adapt to make shows such as Vietnamese versions of Next Top Model or Sasuke.
In conclusion, although international TV products play a role in diversifying a country’s culture, I firmly believe that local producing should be promoted because of the benefits of education and entertainment.
