TOPIC CULTURE

Some people think that young people should follow the traditional values of their society. Others think that young people should be free to act as individuals. Discuss both these views and give your opinion.

MY ANSWER:

It is argued that the conventional ideas should be preserved by the young. While I agree with this view, I believe that the youngsters have right to behave as they will.

On the one hand, traditional ideas are national identity which makes a country different from the others by cultural specificities. As an evidence, Trau Cau is one of the Vietnamese cultural specificities. The Vietnamese people use Trau Cau to worship ancestors at a very wedding ceremony in the hope that the bride and the groom would live together forever. Furthermore, some conventional views and values are certainly applicable to the modern world. As far as older generations are concerned, they attach great important to working hard, doing one’s best and taking pride in one’s work and these behaviours may benefit youngsters in the competitive job market nowadays.

On the other hand, some conventional values are becoming less relevant for the young. In the past, particularly, people had to marry a person who was chosen by their parents. This role should be eroded as young adults are eligible to make their own choices about who and when to marry. Additionally, youngsters should be encouraged to show their highly characteristic features as they are dynamic, creative. If they have chances to exchange culture between Vietnamese and the others and access to the world of knowledge, they may broaden the horizon as well as enrich understanding, experience which enable them to achieve a significant breakthrough in the development of both the country and the world. For instance, Facebook is a social network which is created by a young man, and it has changed the methods people contact and share information with others.

In conclusion, the young not only have right to show their characters but also take charge of the preservation of conventional values.
