Topic: Some people think that the government should not have to provide care and financial support for elderly people because it is the responsibility of each person for retirement and support him or herself
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

It is sometimes argued that financial aid and caring programs towards elderly people take up too much a nation's budget and some people suggest that the government should cut down all of these programs. I totally disagree with this point of view.

In my opinion, it is the rights of elderly citizens to receive both physical and mental support from the authority. Firstly, these people have dedicated all their lives to work and contribute to the development of a country, in other words, without their dedication, it is not possible for a country to be as successful as it is today. Secondly, currently, in many regions, the pension system is working effectively and no change should be made. People start working and put aside a small amount of their wages to the country's budget every month and these money would be paid back as a form of minimum wages, known as pension.

The alternatives to using governmental support would be much less affective. One option would be for retired people to make a contract with private insurance company or keep their money in a bank, but all of these places are running for monetary profit and they possibly take advantages of their savings. A second option would be for people to plan to save up money and put it in a safe place. However, these people would face with high risk of robbery or unexpected conditions, such as their house catch fire, may destroy all of their accumulated property. Finally, it is usually believe to be the young generation's responsibility to take care of their older loved ones, but there is a small proportion of people do not have kids or wives at all.

In conclusion, I believe the government should be in charge of taking care of elderly people by providing them pension when they are unable to work.
