The charts summarise the weight measurements of people living in Charlestown in 1955 and 2015.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Answer:

The charts illustrate the weight status of people living in Charlestown in 1955 and 2015. Five groups with different age from 20 to 69 were investigated and shown in the charts.

In can be seen from the bottom figure that, in 1955, most of the citizen in Charlestown kept their body in the recommended weight. The percentage of ideal people is largest of about 70% in the young group from 20-30 years old and slightly decreased with the increase of age. The percentage of underweight people in this period was also large, especially for elderly people with more than 40%. The overweight people was largest at the age ranged from 40 to 49, while no obese people were observed in the groups from 20 to 39 years old.

According to the top chart, in 2015, there was only a little change in the young group from 20 to 29 with additional 2% obese people. However, there is a remarkable change in the ideal and obese people in 2015 compared to those in 1955. The percentage of ideal people fell down to only 5% in the group from 60 to 69, while the number of obese people rose rapidly from only 2% for youngest group to 60% for the oldest group. From the top chart, the underweight people decreased significantly from the age of 30 upwards. Underweight was only a problem for young people during this period.

In summary, the two charts showed a big gap in the weight of inhabitants in Charlestown between the past and present. The overweight is a big problem in recent year due to perhaps the rapid increase of the fast food as well as the less exercise of the people.
