At the present time, the population of some countries includes a relatively large number of young adults, compared with the number of older people.

Do the advantages of this situation outweigh the disadvantages

Nowadays, the proportion of young adults in the population of several nations is larger than that of the elderly. I strongly agree that the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks.

On the one hand, one of the many advantages is that these countries possess a better opportunity to develop their technology. In fact, in most cases, young generations are believed to be apt learners who can comprehend and apply new technology faster and more effectively, thereby helping their countries to thrive and improve their living standards. By contrast, it is backed by science that a majority of old people have to face many cognitive functions and are more reserved to accept new things.

What's more, a large number of young adults can also contribute to ensure their national security. While both young males and females can potentially become army cadets who participate in training to become official members of the police or army, the old cannot because of their physical limitations. Therefore, a country with more young adults than old folks are more likely to have an advantage over their rival when they are suddenly invaded.

On the other hand, their are drawbacks to having a large percentage of young people in the population of a nation. One such drawback is that crime rates in this country can be particular high possibly due to serious unemployment. According to recent statistics, young people who experience long term unemployment are 80% more likely to commit crimes such as robbery, drug trafficking or even murder to support their family and themselves financially.

In conclusion, I completely agree that the merits outweigh the demerits because young people can not only speed up the developing process of a country through technology but also serve their country in the army or police force. However, juvenile crimes are what to be seriously concerned, so I recommend we ensure an adequate birth rate as well as educate and create more job opportunities for these people.
