The line chart shows figures about the consumption of various types of energy including petrol/oil, coal/gas, nuclear, and recycled energies (solar/wind, hydropower) in the USA from 1980 to 2008 and the forecast to 2030.

Overal, there is a steady increase of fossil fuels consumption during the 1980-2008 period as well as the projections until 2030. In contrast, the amount of nuclear and recycled energies made up modest portions in total consumption throughout 28 years and even in the projections.

In 1980, petrol and oil ranked first with 35 quadrillion units following by two other fossil energy sources: natural gas and coal which were at the second and third places (20 and 16 quadrillions, respectively). Petrol/oil and coal still underwent steady increase in the 1980-2008 period and the projections until 2030 to secure their two first positions with 50 and 30 quadrillions pushing natural gas to the third place.

The output of nuclear and recycled powers were rather low with less than 5 quadrillion units per each in 1980. The utilisation of nuclear power slightly rose to approximately 7 quadrillions while the amount of solar/wind and hydropower were fluctuated within 28 years since 1980. The positions of three sorts of energy remain unchanged in the forecast until 2030.
