Some people believe that competitive sports, both team and individual, have no place in the
school curriculum. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
There is a common belief that competitive sports, whatever the specific kinds, are not of an important part of the school curriculum. I strongly disagree with the statement since participating in sporty activities has a profound benefit to students’ physical health and psychological well-being and teaching sports as a mandatory discipline also develops their behaviors.
There is a demonstration that physical activity promotes their general health and prevents students from various types of diseases. In fact, it is clear that rarely do educational institutions in most parts of the world eliminate physical education from their pedagogical systems. Students from all educational levels are able to have a wide range of sports such as football, basketball, tennis and so on to take part in. Taking regular exercises do make the cardiovascular system better and improve the muscular enhance, thereby protecting people against obesity due to the sedentary attitude and resulting in a happy, active, and balanced life. Moreover, doing sports can release stress and revitalize energy which is very important for children of today as youngsters' suicide rates are getting higher and higher.
Another undeniable advantage of competitive sports is shaping the character of school children. They have to build up a team with their classmates. They develop, therefore, abilities in interpersonal and social interaction as well as leadership that benefit them very much. In addition, all team sports educate the students on how to cope with success and loss and how they also respect the rules. In reality, children gain information that is far more important for their own future by means of athletic classes. For example, it is easy for these pupils with expertise to manage some key situations in their future careers.
In conclusion, sports play an indispensable role in students’ classes in various aspects as well as their physical and emotional development in the future. Without a sports curriculum, the school atmosphere will be boring, and pupils will not be motivated enough to practice what they are benefiting from.
