Please help me review my SOP Application

My interest in studying agricultural economicsis one that has grown over time with too many factors contributing to it. It started in 2008 after my dad’s retirementfrom the Nigeria civil service that prompted his return to our local villagewhere he set up a farm that involved in poultry, fishery and vegetable farming.Having completed my undergraduate studies I would always find myself pickingeggs in the poultry or feeding the chickens, this heightened my interest in agriculture alongwith the looming neglect the sector has faced in Nigeria. Furthermore, was the discovery of oil that has undermined the usefulness ofagriculture in ensuring food security in a country with over 200 millionpopulation. My purpose for choosing this field of study is to proffer solutionsto issues about farming, agribusiness management and planning through strategicprinciples available in the field.

Fortunately, I have a hand on deck experience dealing with farmersand having an idea of what their challenges are. Working with FincaMicrofinance Bank as a Loan officer after completing my Masters in internationalrelations gave me the opportunity to understand the farming business, themarket trends, and the difficulty of accessing funds from the government standsas a big challenge in achieving maximum food output.

I have selected the graduate program of universityof Saskatchewan because of its outstanding faculty research facilities, whichfosters community-engaged research. In addition, is their global perspective tovarious key issues, knowing that Canadian as a country is one of the largestagricultural producers and exporters in the World. In 2018, agriculture provided269,000 jobs, which Saskatchewan is, one of the farming regions thatcontributed to the numbers. This makes University of Saskatchewan the best forme to gain the necessary practical and analytical skill needed to excel in mycareer goal.

Questions from family and friends as to why Idid not progress directly to studying for my PhD after acquiring a Master’sdegree, my answer is that my 5 years’ experience in the financial industrydealing with Famers loan applications have opened my horizon to theopportunities embedded in the agricultural sector in Nigeria and also thechallenges therein. I am also a member of Bella Sisters foundation, afoundation that caters for the needs of the girl child at the grassrootscommunities.

My decision of choosing University ofSaskatchewan was greatly influenced by the way your research programs addressesagricultural and economic problems. I am particularly anticipating interactingwith Professor William J Brown and Associate Professor Eric Micheels whose workcovers my area of interest. I have made a lot of research through friendsstudying at University of Saskatchewan whom have told me a lot about thecollaborative environment and student support I will enjoy while interactingwith talented students, lectures and industry professionals.

I believe that I will be able to learn andcontribute from the academically challenging environment at the University ofSaskatchewan.
