TOPIC: Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of working from home

These days, thanks to the development of technology, most people no longer need to travel to their office. Working from your own home are becoming more and more common among workers all over the world. While this trend could bring about many benefits, its drawbacks are also required consideration. In this essay, I will explain both the pros and cons and show my opinion.

Let’s start by looking at the disadvantages of doing your job from home. Generally speaking, it allows you full control of your timetable. What I mean by this is that instead of being interrupted while working to attend a meeting or a group discussion, you could concentrate on finishing the task at hand. As a result, your productivity will improve.

Another major benefit is that in many cases, traffic jam during rush-hour is not bothering you any more. When working from the comfort of your own home, waking up early in the morning just to catch a taxi or the bus to arrive at the company one time is no longer your main concern. You could start working at your prefered time as long as you completed the appointed task.

On the other hand, the struggle to fight off external temptations is a major drawback. You might find it difficult to focus on your work and your mind keeps being distracted. For many, dropping your work to enjoy a walk in the garden or turning on the television to watch a movie could be hard to resist.

Another problem is that not going to the company means that there is often no connection with your coworkers. In the majority of cases, you feel isolated and alone at home. If you go to the company and engage in a conversation with colleagues after working at home for such a long time, this feeling will intensify. As a result, this way of working might slowly become a problem for your mental health.

To sum up, working from home is an emerging trend that has both advantages and disadvantages. You need to weigh up the pros of having the freedom and the cons of fighting temptations and feeling lonely. Personally, I prefer to work at the office where I can make friends and separate my work and my personal life.
