Please help me review my essay. I need your feedback

Nowadays a large amount of advertising aiming at children should be banned because of the negative effects. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some people think that commercials targeting at youngsters should be prohibited because of their harmful effects. From my perspective, I somewhat agree with this opinion because I believe there are children-oriented advertisements that have pernicious effects on children; however, there is no denying the fact that there are some other commercials that convey positive messages.

First of all, the main I believe that some advertising aiming at youngsters should be outlawed is that the majority of TV advertisements routinely misrepresent the actual functions of the products that they promote. And since children have not fully developed their rational abilities, they would possibly trust those seductive images while watching them. As a result, they would pester their parents to buy the products, and if parents cannot pander to their’ wishes, they could be disgruntled, which might lead to behavioral problems in children.

Additionally, recent research concluded that food advertising seems to have little influence on children’s general perceptions of what constitutes a healthy diet. Instead of this, they focus more on exaggerating the benefits and the appearances of their products. In most cases, these products are junk foods. And because of this, it is common to see that youngsters nowadays choose fast foods as their staple diets rather than nutritional ones, which might be an explanation for why the worldwide childhood obesity rate is increasingly high.

However, It does seem unreasonable to acclaim that all commercials aiming children have negative effects. In fact, there are some advertisements that encourage children to live healthily. Take Lifeboy for example, whose commercials usually give children an idea of how to keep their body clean by using step-by-step short video instructions on how to wash their hands and clean their bodies properly.

In conclusion, I somewhat believe that some specific commercials should be restricted but not all commercials. This is because some of them can have beneficial impacts on children. Given this situation, it seems that the government should impose some criteria that advertisers should meet before making their advertisements publicly appeared on TV.
