Please help me review me essay. Thank you very much

Topic: In some countries, people are no longer allowed to smoke in many public places and office buildings. Do you think this is a good rule or a bad rule?

My essay:

Cigarette smoking becomes a prevalent problem in many countries. In recent years, more and more countries have implemented smoking bans in public areas and the workplace. In my opinion, this regulation will bring a lot of benefits for our community.

First of all, smoking in public affects the health of many people by passive smoking. In fact, cigarette smoke is not only harmful to smokers themselves but also detrimental to surrounding people. Scientific evidence shows that those who suffer from secondhand smoking face similar risks of developing cardiovascular diseases, lung cancer and other health problems as smokers. Besides, the proportion of preterm birth also increases in pregnant women who are exposed to secondhand smoke.

Secondly, smoking bans reduce the risk of fire in high-risk areas of explosive hazards. There are various things around us that can easily catch fire such as fabric, natural gas and fuel tank of public transport vehicles. If someone disposes of cigarette butts or ashes carelessly, these litter can easily spread to combustible materials and start a fire. Each year, smoking materials are attributed to thousands of explosive cases in public places, which leads to myriad death and injuries of innocent people.

Last but not least, smoking cessation improves workplace productivity. When smokers are craving cigarettes, they find it difficult to concentrate on their work. Also, according to some research, tobacco users tend to have more sick days than their counterparts. As a result, their productivity would decrease due to losing work time for smoke breaks and absenteeism. In my company, non-smoking employees often work harder and more effectively than smoking employees.

In summary, I believe that the prohibition of public smoking is a good measure to protect the health of the community, prevent fire risk and raise labor productivity.
