Topic: Some people believe that the best way of learning about life is by listening to advice of family and friends. Other people believe that the best way of learning about life is through personal experience. Compare the advantages of these two different ways of learning about life. Which do you think is preferable?

Life is a journey of learning with various lessons we acquire along the way. Some of lessons come from our own experience while there are others that we learn from surrounding people including family and friends. Each way has its own advantages but to me, I prefer the latter one.

On the one hand, those who believe that the most effective way to learn about life is by getting advice from family and friends have their strong arguments. First, guidance from people they trust helps them save much time, effort and money to reach their goals. My little girl becomes a good cook mainly by learning from her mother’s cooking know-how. In addition, they can learn numerous valuable lessons that their reliable people got through their own work and life. My boyfriend’s mother previously received a job interview invitation from a well-known company. Regrettably, on the day of the interview, she was late for 5 minutes and her interview was canceled. Her story reminds him to never be late in every appointment.

On the other hand, those who advocate that a number of lessons in life must be learned through personal experience have their persuasive reasons. To them, only through personal experience can they acquire and improve essential skills. Actually, no one can drive a car, deliver a good speech or write a persuasive essay without sufficient practice. Personal experience gives them deeper and longer impression than does the advice of others. Furthermore, there are so many great things they can miss unless they experience by themselves. For example, it is hard to know how wonderful landscape of Mount Fuji in Japan is without traveling to this destination.

While I am interested in listening to stories and lessons given by my parents, relatives and close friends, I have been constantly learning about life through my personal experience. By this way, I could learn more about the real life, particularly when advice from other people is not always available.
