Why are juvenile crimes happening at alarming rate ?

In recent year, the number of juvenile crimes all over the world has increased at an alarming rate. This trend will cause a lot of bad consequences for the society in many ways and become one of the most imperative issues in most countries. This issue is extremely serious. People should be together to find out solutions before it is too late.

Crime is an obsession for people all over the world. Some statistics show that the crime rate has increased rapidly, especially juvenile crimes. The data shows that the number of the young men who have been charged with homicide has jumped by 43% in the past twenty years. Some people have been very shocked after watching some data on this serious issue: the percentage of juvenile crimes is higher than adult crimes. This has been recorded from a report in India, where intellectuals are still low as well as management from the government is weak.

Juvenile crime is the act of committing a crime at a very young age. A juvenile delinquent is a young person, particularly a teenager under the age of eighteen, who violates national laws and must be punished by that country's sanctions depending on the extent of the offense. It is like any crime that human beings commit but these crimes differ because they are committed by young people. Before adulthood, children have less experience and knowledge in life. Therefore, family as well as society need to be responsible for children who become criminals because children are white pages, they become criminals because of their circumstances and many bad factors.

Some of the reported data on adolescent violence can be surprising when it increases too quickly along with their frightening nature. Homicides by young men between the ages of 14 and 17 have increased 161% from 1992 to 1993, aggravated assault arrests have grown 95% since 1985, robbery arrests have grown 57%, the number of juvenile arrests in 1994 was 94% higher than total number in 1981. These are numbers that speak, which help people pay attention to the source of the problem. There are many causes of this disturbing trend. First and foremost: divorce and abandonment of children from a young age. Without the love and education of their parents, the children who have been less experienced in life will easily fall into social evils when they come into contact with bad people. It is understandable that they do not have caregivers and lead them in life as well as self-deprecation that will make them hate society. On the other hand, in some cases, even though children can still live with their parents, they are unlikely to become good people. Family is the basic socialization agency for the children. Children learn basic concepts about good and bad from their family, they make their values and set the norms of society. Family can make or destroy the personality of the children. Frequent parents fight, broken families, lack of trust among the parents, criminal parents can be the most important reason behind juvenile delinquency. Family have the responsibility to mold the personality of the children. Specifically, according to many reports, over the past thirty years, the rise in violent crime parallels the rise in families abandoned by parents. The neighborhoods have more crime also area with many families with divorced parent. Analysis by Heritage scholars indicates that a 10% in the percentage of children living in a family with divorced parents leads typically to a 17% increase in juvenile crimes. The rate of young crimes corresponds with the number of children without parents. According to a study by Douglas Smith and G. Roger Jarjoura in 1988 over 11,000 people found that the proportion of single households with children in adolescence is significantly associated with rates of violent crime and burglary.

With the rapid increase of juvenile crimes along with the more sinister nature of crime that has caused fear everywhere. Therefore, society needs to take measures to resolve this problem soon. First of all, the government should enact legislation on age that is allowed to have children, minimizing childbirth but not being able to nurture them. In addition, the government should support families that have poor economic status so that they can improve their financial condition. On the other side, the school, society and family need an appropriate educational measure so that children can develop in the best way. That will help them have a good idea and knowledge to help them actively protect themselves from social evils. Besides, the government can establish propaganda for families with children, helping them to have a broader view of keeping family happiness. In parallel with that, parents need to be more accountable to their children, not to be selfish about personal problems and abandon their children.

In conclusion, children play an important role in the flourish of a country. They need attentive care, education and protection from family, school and society. Although management and monitoring all are impossible but people must do everything they can to prevent and minimize the number of juvenile crimes.
