Topic : With independence comes increased responsibility

Independence and responsibility are two related qualities. When child grow up and move out, they become independence from their parents. Throughout many challenges of maturation, they realize that responsibility is necessary in their reflections and their actions to help them success in life. For myself, one of my memorable experience is my wrong decision that I decided to make money instead of focusing into study when I was in grade 11. What I realized from this experience was that making a wrong choice could be understandable. The most important was the realization of responsibility through my independent choice.

Back to one year ago, in a winter evening, I finished my working day and prepared to go back home. It was been two weeks since I got my first part time job in Vancouver. I worked as a waitress while studying full time in high school because I thought that I can make my own independence life without any supporting finance from my family but everything was not easily as I thought. I came back home at 9 pm. My body almost lacked of strength and my eyes fighted for sleep after a long working day. Although, I tried to pay attention for self-study, research, and preparing for final exam few days after, I found myself quickly falling asleep. I thought, “Well, I’m gonna be fine. I’m pretty good with my Math.” With my confidence, I went to bed without any worries about the final exam coming soon.

On the test day, I began to see my big problem. I already missed some classes before included the review test day and I just read over a little theory in the book. I was fearless and ready for the test because I thought” Math have never be my challenge, Math is just a subject that I don’t even need study.” Then I felt my heart beating quickly and a tension headache appeared as I received the test sheet. Many sentences and numbers was jumping in my head while I forced myself to be calm to solve many questions. My hands became sweating and trembling due to the strange questions that I didn’t understand. I found myself had not enough knowledge to do the test. It was hard to realize how my brain response to those questions, it seemed like I was doing a AP Calculus exam that I had nothing understanding about this. By the end of a test, some answer boxes were empty and some answers were confusing. To my embarrassment, I was aware of the risk of lacking class attention but I still hoped to pass this test due to some questions I did.

One week after, I expected to see my Math test result. I got 10% in final test and as the result, I failed. My test was terrible with a lot of stupid issues. I saw many new solutions that

I actually missed in some skipping classes before. Because I’d have to spend too much time on working and spend less time on studying, I wouldn’t have enough time for self study, getting homework done or preparing for test. I realised how my irresponsibility affected to my studying result and myself. I made a wrong decision when I choose to continue working instead of focusing on studying but I didn’t repent about this. Why? I knew that from my independence, I had to pay more responsibility for myself that I needed to think deeply about advantages and disadvantages before getting a decision. Also, no one can strive to be one of those people. Don’t expect life to be successful without responsibility. Many people around me took a job while studying so I thought,” They can do it, why I can’t?” I tried to do as same as other people did without seeing what I really need to be successful. Taking responsibility means taking ownership of your own life. Making a wrong decision could change my life in a short time but after that I learnt how t to pay responsibility for myself when I was independent.

When we grow up, we will become independence. We face with many problems in life and sometimes, we had to challenge myself in a lot of difficult choices. Making a wrong decision is understandable. The most important thing should be what you learn to have responsibility for yourself. “ Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.” Mohandas Karamchand Gandh, a famous Indian activist said.
