i have a to write a term paper in stylistics, the subject of it is " the ideological conflict in Guy De Manppassants. A fishing excursion in terms of Van Dike's model. a study in literary discourse. i dont know how to analyze it in terms of this model , and what steps i should follow. if anyone knows how to do it, i ll be thankful and greateful if he/she writes the answer

In The Fishing Excursion, by Guy de Maupassant, set during the Franco-Prussian War, two old soldiers, French veterans of the Napoleonic Wars, go fishing in no man's land between the French and Prussian forces. They remark on the beauty of the river and are lost in their pastime. They are captured suddenly by Prussian soldiers and are taken to their officer who demands the password that got them through French lines - he can shoot them as spies and holds this over them. They gallantly remain silent and are shot.
