Please help me fix this essay

Question: Some people think that a sense of competition in children should be encouraged. Others believe that children who are taught to cooperate rather than compete become more useful adults.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinions.

Children’s upbringing methods have long been a topic of controversy. Many people believe that youngsters need to be motivated to compete for their place in life whereas others reckon that the ability of working with other people is much more necessary. From my point of view, children should be taught the sense of cooperation so that they can become useful adults afterwards.

On the one hand, competition may cause mental torment when children fail to outdo their peers. Admittedly, youngsters who desire to stand out from the masses tend to suffer greater bitterness of failure than others. This is probably evident in an alarming phenomenon - pupils committing suicide over poor learning outcomes. The illustration indicates that children with heavy responsibility of being exceptional may end up tragically once they fall behind their classmates. Obviously, the excessive competitiveness is to blame in such cases. It is, therefore, agreed that the sense of competition should not be encouraged in children’s education.

On the other hand, cooperative is essential for any society to thrive. This is because there are various missions that cannot be completed without teamwork. Such claim may be proved in Johann W. Goethe’s argument, “Let everyone sweep in front of his own door, and the whole world will be clean”. In the quote, Goethe implies that together individuals can conquer the impossible and hereby affirms the value of cooperation. As a result, it is believed that the cooperative spirit should be the basis of children’s upbringing.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that children should be trained as cooperative team players rather than competitive individuals. As nobody is perfect, children are supposed to learn how to join forces for common interests. After all, cooperation is the key to success. (289 words)
