There is a school of thought that the best measure to solve traffic and pollution issues is rising the petrol price. I totally disagree with this idea and I believe that there are more better solutions which could tackle these problems.
The option to increase the price of petrol is disadvantageous to some extent. The first drawback is that it has a detrimental impact on the economy in the long term. The higher petrol price will lead to increasing transportation costs and therefore, it causes large decrease in the consumption of oil, gas and private car as well. Take this issue more seriously, energy and transportation manufacturing industries may be affected negatively. Furthermore, devastating effects are likely to be observed in some oil-importing countries which rely mainly on petrol to produce their products. As a result, these nations will be paid more for the petrol and force to invest less money in other crucial areas.
I world consider that various other measures would be more constructive to mitigate the problems of traffic congestion and pollution. One approach is that governments should develop and introduce renewable sources such as wind and solar energies as alternatives. These clean energies could help to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases that cause pollution. For example, electric cars are already widely used in some developed countries such as US and UK. Another approach is the public transport like metro and bus networks would be more developed. Residents might be encouraged to use public transport instead of their own cars, thus reduce traffic jams as well as emissions.
In conclusion, it seems to me that rising the price of metro is only a short-term way to address traffic and pollution problems. I would believe that other solutions could bring more effective consequences.
