Answer:
It is believed that students with the highest result in study should be awarded. While this is valid to a certain extent. I believe that schools should reward students with significant progress in their learning as well.
It is understandable why some people advocate rewarding students who have best achievements in school. The key rationale is that this activity is considered a form of encouragements for learners to make improvement in their study. However, this thinking is flawed. To students who are intelligent innately, they only need a little effort to gain the top of academic rank. Consequently, this would discourage less smart learners from boosting themselves in studying because of no matter how much striving were made , they would not compete with the brilliant students in the school. As a result, it would be difficult to see the betterment of those students’ studying.
On the other hand, I would argue that giving praise for students improving considerably in their study would produce a more desirable effect. The reason is that this would motivate more students including normal students instead of the smart one only by indicating every students that their efforts paid off. A high school in Vietnam perfectly exemplifies for this phenomenon. In lieu of awarding high ranking students only, the school also have praised students who further their study quickly after each semester. The implication of this is that the number of students with lower academic results have been reduced significantly after school terms.
In conclusion, I believe that schools should award both students showing improvements and students achieving the highest result in study instead of rewarding one among them only. (275 words)
