Nowadays, more and more children have changed their way of relaxing and spending their spare time due to the advent of technology. While some people would argue that this change is beneficial, I believe that this trend has brought more harm than good to children.
On the one hand, the advantages of technologies for kids are undeniable. Firstly, a wide range of useful recreational activities, video games as well as online lessons are created by using modern devices to enhance children’s development. Take Sodoku game as an example, this game aims at boosting the logical thinking and increasing the memory of a child. As a result, some children are able to recall things quickly than others. Secondly, these days, with the great strides in technology, kids can make use of their free time to make friends with people from all over the world thanks to online chat and free video calls. Therefore, their foreign languages’ skills can be significantly improved. This could never happen in the past that children were only able to stay at home and play traditional games.
On the other hand, I believe that the cons of this trend are more significant than the pros. The first reason is that if a child keeps his eyes glued to the screen or other digital devices for a long period of time, this could lead to the eyes’ swelling and later a reduction in visual acuity. I have seen many children in my hometown suffer from short-sight at an early age. Another reason is that children can be easily exposed to inappropriate content and programs like sex and crime. Many kids grow up, bear in mind those harmful things and gradually, they are affected and may commit criminal acts. This should be strictly controlled by parents who let their children play electronic devices freely in their leisure time.
In conclusion, I would argue that the disadvantages of technologies outstrip their advantages.
