Many governments think that economic progress is their most important goal. Some people, however, think that other types of progress are equally important for a country.?
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Economic development is a government priority in many countries. In contrast, many people argue that the public authorities should invest more in other developments such as education and transportation. To my way of thinking, it is better to prioritize expenditure on economic development.
Allocating resources to other forms of process are advantageous to some extent. First of all, it is efficient in long-term development for the government to invest in education instead of the economy. Educational progress may not have instant effect as economic progress, however, after two or three decades, it would improve countries in all aspect. To illustrate, Japan, which suffered heavily from the World War 2, began putting almost all resources in education in spite of limited budget. As a result, Japan is the second economy in the world ranking at the present. In addition, to judge a country’s success is not only in the economy but also in many aspects including human right and living standard.
On the other hand, it seems to me that economic development would bring the most beneficial result in country’s success. Firstly, putting more resources in the economy may result in larger budget. Therefore, the authorities can use that to improve the infrastructure, health service, pensions or build more schools. Secondly, with developed economic, the country would gain a huge respect internationally, which lead to a strong standing in the political world. Finally, several problems such as unemployment may be solved effectively by economic progress.
In conclusion, I strongly believe there are many benefits of investing in economic development, although other kinds of developments can be advantageous.
