Most people have forgotten the meaning behind traditional or religious festivals; during festival periods, people nowadays only want to enjoy themselves. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
There was an argument about whether or not people nowadays are no longer remember the meaning behind their countries' festival, and all they care about are just to have fun. While I see nothing wrong with the fact that the young generation is enjoying themselves and having fun during festivals, I disagree that they have already forgotten about the history of these festivals.
On the one hand, religious festivals have become more of a celebration time rather than being a time to remember their meaning. For instance, on the Christmas holiday, people nowadays are busy buying and exchanging gifts, decorating their homes, cooking dishes and just enjoying their time with the people they love. Not a lot of people use this holiday as an event to remember or express their gratitude to someone else anymore. Or in Vietnam we have the Hung King's Anniversary which most people see as a chance to have a day off and travel somewhere else.
However, I do not agree with the idea that people have already forgotten about the meaning of these traditional festivals. In Vietnam, we have started to learn about Hung Kings since elementary school and every year when the Hung Kings' Anniversary day arrive most school would hold the ceremony to help the students experience and know more about the festivals and show their gratitude. Families also play a big role in passing down their knowledge on to the next generation by teaching their children the origin of religious festivals and why we should celebrate them.
In conclusion, it is true that people nowadays care more about having a good time at traditional festivals, I still believe that they still understand the meaning behind all of these celebrations
