My topic: The diagram shows the components of a neuron and how it works
Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and making comparisons where relevant.
My essay:
The diagram illustrates a neuron and all of its components. And from the diagram, we can also see how it functions.
As we can see from the diagram, a neuron consists of six different parts. The first one is the cell body; it has a round shape, and we can consider it the heart of the diagram. The cell body has another name, soma. Next, we will move to the dendrites, whose main mission is to receive messages that come from other cells. Then these messages will turn into an electric signal and travel down the axon; this is called the action potential.
After that, it is the axons that send the messages from the cell body to other neurons, muscles, or glands. The shell that covers the axons is called the myelin sheath. Its main purpose is to protect the axons and speed up the neural impulse. Finally, we will move the last component, the terminal buttons. These parts are y-shaped and serve the function of forming junctions with other cells.
