Question : In the age of computers and the internet, is there still a need for public libraries? To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Answer:
In this science and technology era, computers has substitued lots of previous tools, one of which is libraries. However, from my perspective, I totally disagree with the statement that public libraries is no longer important in our life for several reasons.
Firstly, libraries are suitable for students of all backgrounds. Owning a personal computer is very difficult for poor pupils, if not impossible. Consequently, they are not able to have access to an enormous source of information on the Internet like others. It is also harder for them to update or search for information with their own few books. Therefore, public libraries are a useful tool for their learning. Thanks to libraries, these students can still use high quaylity studying materials with a more reasonable price.
Secondly, libraries create a better studying environment. For example, when you go to a library, see people learning passionately, you will also increase your own concentration and effectiveness. On the other hand, computers can distract your attention from learning because there is a wide variety of interesting websites and software available on computers all the time. You may spend time surfing the Internet and completely forget your main task. Thus, when it comes to studying focusedly, a library is somehow more efficient than a computer.
In conclusion, for forward reasons, I believe that besides computers, libraries also play an important part in everyone's education. As a result, I highly recommend people, especially students, should continue taking advantage of libraries and maintain their role for the future.
