It is observed that in many countries not enough students are choosing to study science subject. What are causes? And what will be effects on society?
Nowadays, the number of students who select science subjects to study are decreasing in many countries. There are countless reasons for this trend, which is having a significant impact on society.
There are two primary reasons why students ignore science subjects. Firstly, it is obvious that for all learners in general, these subjects are very hard as well as boring for and they required large students’ efforts. Therefore, students who choose to study science subjects are usually have great passion and enthusiasm. Secondly, the majority of students today opt other majors instead of science because of their goals after graduation. The important factor which influents on students decision-making when they find job is high salary. The fact that, in Viet Nam, engineers or researchers earn less money in comparision with other careers.
This tendency could have negative impacts on society. One consequence can be seen easily is that it unbalances job market. While the number of employees of other majors exceed the number of available jobs, the science careers lack of workers. This leads to unemployment situation in some fields, a pressing problem of government as well as family. Another negative factor is that there would be less innovation when a country have insufficient science experts. For instance, if medicine for dangerous diseases is not found and hi-tech medical equipments are not invented, mortality rate will escalate.
In conclusion, there are a number of reasons why more and more students nowadays prefer to choose other subjects rather than to study science majors. As a result, there could be negative influences on society in long term.
