Homework plays an essential role when it comes to school systems in many countries around the world. However, people hold different opinions about whether children should do homework every day. While some people believe that children should not have assignments at home daily, others argue that daily homework is vital to be successful at school.
Homework does have many benefits because assignments can help students review and practice their knowledge learnt at school beyond the classrooms. It also provides them chances to understand and find out more interesting things related to their lessons in class. For example, biologic exercises which require children to plant a tree and observe its growth progression, enable them to understand the concept of vegetation in biology lessons. In addition, homework usually allows kids to summarize and practice the knowledge that they've learnt in class by themselves. As a result, they tend to pay attention to their lectures in classrooms and gain their better marks from their study. From my point of view, I accept that homework for children is essential and better than not.
Despite of some advantages, doing homework can create stress and put pressure on both children and their parents. Furthermore, spending plenty of hours at night completing homework, that has the harmful effects to children's brains and reduces their energy and productivity as well, can lead to lack of relaxing and sleeping.
On the other hand, I argue that children should not be given plenty of homework every day. They need more social time to keep company with their friends and family. If children do not have to do homework, they could spend more time on experience and creativity through outdoor activities such as camping, hiking and exploring many new places or meeting a lot of people. Too many assignments may put a stress of exam on their emotions, which may make them nervous and stressful. Then, it may be detrimental for children physical and mental abilities. Some research show that less than one percent of children said that homework is not stressful and there are more than eighty percent of children who have to suffer at least one stress - related symptom per month.
If there is no homework, children may be lazier and less competitive in class. They may also have less time to review old lessons, enhance their skills and understand what they are taught in school.
To sum up, although both sides have their own pros and cons, I believe homework for children is undoubtedly crucial when it is applied in regularly and moderate frequency.
