Topic: People work because they need money to live. What are some other reasons that people work? Discuss one or more of these reasons.

Fundamentally, people work to earn money for essential things such as food, clothing, and housing. But that is not the only reason. People also work for other things. From my perspective, people work to satisfy their passion, contribute to our society and acquire necessary experience.

Firstly, the key motivation that pulls people into workplace is their love for what they do. If people love their work, they will put their full potential and creativity into their work. This leads to maximum engagement, high productivity and low turnover. My father has been working as a chemist for over ten years. Every day, he immerses himself into his work, seeking for new chemical elements as well as carrying out a lot of experiments in his laboratories.

Secondly, a number of people keep working to make contributions to our society. It is interesting that when people have too much money, they attempt to give back to society. Quite a few people continue to work even when they possess a significant amount of property. Bill Gates is a typical example. Since he became the richest man in the world, he has never stopped working. Recently, his Bill and Melina Gates Foundation has made great global contributions to enhance healthcare quality and reduce poverty in developing countries.

Last but not least, taking a job, particularly for students is a great way to gain valuable experiences. Nowadays, undergraduate students are encouraged to do some part-time jobs besides their college courses. The reason is that working environment provides them real experience and deep insight of their later career. This allows them to realize whether they fit their current jobs and hence, have better career decisions.

In conclusions, for all reasons mentioned above, I believe that people work not only for money but also for other things including job’s passion, contributions to society and experience achievement.
