Essay & Composition Writing

Please help me checking my essay.

Some people think news has no connection to people’s lives. So then it is a waste of time to read the newspaper and watch television news programs. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some people believe that reading the newspaper and watching the news on TV is pointless because they are irrelevant to people’s daily lives. I partially agree with this viewpoint as there is a close connection between news and people’s lives.

To begin with, I believe daily newspaper and news programs do practically connect to everyday life. It is because news is information or daily reports about events happening around people such as accidents, elections, crimes, etc. Also, it is categorized into different topics which could stimulate one’s interests. For example, sport-minded people are usually interested in sports games, while businessman would prefer economic growths and declines in various markets and nations.

Although news could link to people’s lives, I would opine that reading newspaper and watching news programs is a waste of time. First of all, knowing what is happening around the world does not help people make crucial and sensible decisions in real lives. By reading weather forecast or political articles, for instance, one could not decide which companies he or she should invest in. Additionally, since there are several dramatic events such as bank robbing, scandals of celebrities, etc, people tend to spend most of the time reading such appealing articles. Furthermore, reading a variety of negative pieces of writing would have harmful impacts on people’s behaviour. Frequent exposure to news relating to violence such as robbing or killing would encourage people to commit crimes more.

In conclusion, although there is a connection between the news and people’s lives, I would argue that reading the newspaper and watching the news is pointless and time-consuming.

Thank you and have a good day.
