Question: Please outline your immediate plans upon studying and your longer term career goals.
Answer:
Deeply aware of a government official’s responsibility, my long-term goal is supporting the S&T enterprises in “bringing R&D results to the market successfully and sustainably”, devoting to the sustainable development of our economy.
At the moment, the incentive policy for S&T enterprises just support the development of S&T enterprises mainly by financial incentives from tax and fee reduced. However, supporting enterprises with knowledge, skills, and strategy is what I consider more important in long-term. Therefore, within 10 years, I would like to support S&T enterprises commercializing R&D results on the case by case basis. The cutting-edge marketing strategy course will equip me with modern methods and comprehensive strategy to give advice or consult S&T enterprises on their innovation marketing strategy, new product development strategy and so on, which guarantee the innovation commercialization’s success of the enterprise. At the same time, I will carry various research about R&D market and step by step amend the government R&D funding policy to be more market-driven, which results in the increase of marketable R&D products, promising the achievement of the later commercialization.
Moreover, I am planning to promote the cooperation between Natec and other non-profit organization such as the UK Royal Academy of Engineering, the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation (Tekes), Embassy of Sweden, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, etc. Instead of ODA, these organizations are aiding our country by other means such as giving grants for co-research projects between Vietnamese and foreign companies, giving fellowship for Vietnamese researchers enhancing entrepreneurship knowledge and so on. For example, Royal Academy of Engineering delivered as part of the UK Newton Fund the “Leaders in Innovation Fellowships” programme to build the capacity of researchers for entrepreneurship and commercialisation of their research for Vietnamese researchers, who are in the process of developing a business proposition for their innovation. The Vietnamese researchers will take part in a focused period of training in the UK, access to a commercialisation plan for their innovation. By joining these cooperating, our S&T enterprises will have chance to exchange knowledge, enhance the effectiveness of R&D activities, and Vietnam researchers could improve their entrepreneurship skills.
In longer term, after complete various models of R&D marketing strategy, be expertise in this area, I aim to set up an R&D commercialization center, which is under Natec control, in order to expand the successful and sustainable R&D commercialization process in all over Vietnam, promoting the image of Vietnam R&D products and S&T enterprises as well as directing public attention to the R&D activities. The Center will expand the attention on other criteria of a commercialization process such as IP right consultation, calling for a financial reinvestment from successful S&T enterprises and so on. Thanks to Chevening Network, who come from both government agencies and private companies, as well as foreign alumni, I can ask advice from these experts and my target are more achievable, creating a substantial marginal benefit for S&T enterprises.
