Although more and more people read news on the Internet, newspapers will remain the most important source of news. Do you agree or disagree?

Answer:

There has been a dramatic increase in the number of people reading news on the Internet, yet, newspapers will still be the most important source of information. In my opinion, I disagree with this point of view.

There are some reasons why online news is getting more and more popular with the readers. Firstly, Internet is capable of providing up to the minutes news coverage of events as they happen. In the past, news was hard to come by as it took the editorial offices quite some time to send out publications, however, nowsaday, people can easily get the latest news through thousands of newspapers websites. Secondly, information is now more accessible thanks to advances in technology. With millions and millions of cellphones in readers’s hands, they can connect to the Internet instantly and get the news that they are interested in immediately.

In contrast, newspapers have drawbacks which affect their popularity. One disadvantage is that they are now become only a source of stale news. After all types of news are gathered, they have to go through editing and printing process to form a proper newspaper, which prevent them from carrying the latest breaking news stories . Moreover, the making of printed media also have an effect on the environment. As paper, which is made from wood, is a vital requirement to make newspapers, many trees need to be cut down to meet the demand of the publishing industry. This may lead to greater deforestation, which will eventually result in environmental degradation.

In conclusion, I believe that the importance of newspapers is declining while online news is getting more and more popular to the public.
