It is true that some people believe students should study the science of food and its preparation while others think they should focus on more essential field. In my opinion, I agree with the former.
On the one hand, there are already many necessary subjects and activities that students enjoy at school. For instance, some activities such as art, music, sport. Therefore, school timetable are already full. Having a new field would just increase the burden on students. Especially for the high school seniors when they have to face university exams
On the other hand, despite some drawbacks, food science brings various benefits. Firstly, knowledge of food field science is related to the general well being of human. It builds a balanced diet for students as they know what food need to eat. for example, they would prefer to eat fruit and vegetables rather than fast food. Food science prepares young people for their life is another advantage. They study cooking for themselves by practicing safe hygiene standards and preparing nutritious home-made food. Finally, is is also related to biochemistry. Students learn about artifical colouring, chemical preservatives and understand food labeling.
In conclusion, While some drawbacks are existed, I agree with that opinion that space must be found to teach food science and preparation.
