Foreign visitors should pay more than local visitors for cultural and historical attractions. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

It is widely claimed that oversea tourists should be charged more than native residents when coming to historical and scenic spots. While this opinion is valid to some extent, I believe that there should be the same expense for visitors regardless of nationality.

It is understandable why some are in favour of the idea that there should be higher prices for foreign tourists. The key rationale here is that inhabitants have already paid money to these sites through tax systems whether or not they paid a visit to those cultural places. However, this thinking, I believe, is a shortsighted view; as people from all over the world come to contribute to the host country’s economy, which ultimately benefits the citizens of that nation. For that reason, the governments and natives of every nation should be generous to subsidise important cultural attractions and welcome foreigners to visit them. On this count, the idea of forcing foreugn tourists to pay more than the locals is not really practical.

In lieu of charging abroad visitors more compared with the residents, I am convinced that neither foreigners or locals have to spend more than each other but the same. This would be sensible and attract more visitors. It is because if travellers realised that they have to pay higher prices to visit historical and cultural attractions in a particular nation, they would perhaps decide somewhere else to go, leading to the decrease in revenues and capital inflows of that country. Thus, there would be a risk of insufficient funding for the maintenance of these important buildings.

In conclusion, while it might be justifiable to charge overseas tourists more than native people, I still believe that it is a flawed view and every visitor should be charged the same notwithstanding nationality.
