The chart shows the difficulties which people have to deal with when they go to live abroad and how long it takes for them to get used to these difficulties in each age group.
The greatest problem for 18-34-year olds is making friends, about 46 percent of the people in this age group experience this problem. However, only 36 percent of people aged 35-54 find it hard to form friendships, while even 23 percent of people over 55-year olds have this problem.
Fifty-four percent of people over 55 find learning to speak the local language is the most problematic. In comparison, the percentage is much lower in the youngest age group (about 29 percent).
In contrast to their language learning difficulties, only 22 percent of people in the oldest age group have trouble finding somewhere to live. However, this is the second significant problem for two age groups with 39 to 40 percent of people in each group find it hard to get accommodation.
In general, all age groups experience the same problems to some extent, but the percentage of each age group for these problems is different. While the oldest age group has trouble in learning the local language, two younger age groups have difficulties in making the acquaintance of strangers.
