A gap year is gradually turning into a popular notion which indicates a long-year break teenagers spend experiencing before coming to the next position in career and study. While many youngsters reckon that it is a precise opportunity for them to consolidate their knowledge, others consider it to be overspending. In this essay, I will discuss both points of view about this argument and attempt to outline my opinion.
To begin with, a year off is not an extended vacation after a hard-working time but a completely different way to learn. Instead of simply reading about other cultures and places in books, pragmatic travelling can provide young people a plenty of real-life knowledge serving for their future career, in particular, for those working in the tourism industry which needs cross-cultural understanding. Therefore, candidates with realistic experience undeniably have a stronger impression on recruiters.
On the other hand, it is common when others say that they are favourite to enter the new position spontaneously, which can support them in academic work. It is better for those who are specialists and working in a laboratory to make their best use of time to experiment. Otherwise, they will fall into the wrong path fixed a long time before. Hence, in some cases, jumping into the workplace immediately is not time-consuming but definitely effective in jobs.
Anyway, although what is more favourable, I appreciate that both will provide the young adults new-social-skill improvements such as adaptability, problem-solving skills, etc and create an extensive network for them. Provided that they have contended with their choices which are suited to their conditions.
To sum up, I believe that it is not a matter whether we should utilise a gap year or not, it depends on each particular scenario. I consider a long-year off is apparently worthwhile for those finding their passions in life.
