Essay & Composition Writing

Please help me check my writing task 2, thank you!

Task 2: Nowadays, many people cannot read or write. What problems do this cause? What measures can governments take to solve these problems?

Illiteracy has always been one the most pressing problems that the modern society has to deal with. Whereas this issue may trigger some serious difficulties to confront, I believe that there are some feasible approaches to address the problem of illiteracy.

It is true that illiteracy affects negatively on people’s job prospects as well as on the growth of the society. When an individual is unable to read or write, he will miss the chance of broadening his knowledge as most of the valuable information is presented by letters. Since knowledge plays an important role in people’s employability and applying their rights in employment, illiteracy may prevent them from getting a well-paid job to improve the living standards and lead to the situation when they are abused by the employers. Another problem of not being informed about the regulations is that people might violate the laws without realizing it. In fact, this can increase the crime rate in the community, making the society fall into chaos instead of achieving any sustainable development.

There are, however, some practical solutions that the government should adopt to tackle these problems. Firstly, it is crucial that the national and local authorities provide basic literacy classes for people who cannot read or write in some community centers. Besides, there should be some classes exclusively designed for adults who are occupied most of the time to make ends meet. Secondly, some offices should employ staff who can help illiterate people deal with the paperwork to make sure they are not excluded from the rights that every citizen should have. Last but not least, it is the national authority’s responsibility to ensure that all residents can have access to the educational services equally.

In conclusion, being unable to read or write poses many challenges to one’s life and the prosperity of the society. However, there are some policies that can be established to mitigate the problems caused by illiteracy.
