The article: Examining the African Hunting Debate discusses the problems about hunting in the African

1. a) Definition: trophy hunting is legal hunting where people pay to do it and it is permitted in Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia
2. b) Advantages of legal hunting:

- It helps to protect wildlife:

• Profit from hunting is used to stop illegal hunting ? it can have a positive impact on the protection of wildlife
• It increased the number of wild animals after wars in the 1970s and 80s negatively affected herd sizes.

- Farmers look after their animals better if those animals were meant to be sold for the hunter:

• If hunting is stopped, farmers may decide to let their animals die
• There is an exception for Botswana where hunting is illegal for everyone. This can be attributed to the fact that there are no fences between people’s land and animals can move around freely. Therefore, when farmers don’t feed them, they can move somewhere else.

- Kill of large, wild animals occurred when a human’s life is at risk is considered to be a bigger killer than controlled hunting

1. c) Disadvantage of legal hunting: Trophy hunting is accounted for just 1.8 percent of total tourism revenue and only 3 percent of the money actually being used for wildlife preserving

There are no easy solutions to the question of whether or not hunting for wild animals should be banned but understanding the issue is the first step in the right direction
