Essay & Composition Writing

Please help me check my essay. Thank you so much for your help.

Topic: The oder generations tend to have very traditional ideas about how people should live, think and behave. However, some people believe that these ideas are not helpful in preparing younger generations for modern life. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?

Some people choose to follow the old generations’ principles while others disagree with this view, thinking that those ideas are inapplicable in this day and age. Although it seems to me that the old’s ways of life are at times old school, I still believe that they have constructive values to the young.

On the one hand, since the elderly once lived in a completely different time and society, they usually have a deep-rooted mindset. Linving in social frames and harsh rules are the norm references that they set great store to and at all times expect their offspring to follow. Thus, the younger generations find it hard to express new ideas or to’break the box’ as this would constitute an unprincipled thing to do. In addition, the majority of the aged even perpetuate the false belief that female’s work is all linked to chores, childcare and some other related; and that men should be the breadwinners and in charge of everything. This led to gender discrimination in the past but fortunately, these outdated mythologies have by far been eliminated.

However, not all of the old generations’ ways of life are of little value. Had it not been for their life-long experience, nothing would have been established as moral bases for the youth to improve on other things. We are now able to identify between the suitable and inappropriate so as to maintain the precious lessons and make refinements to the incomplete ones. Moreover, we should as well learn from the aged what we sometimes forget due to our hectic lifestyle: politeness and good manners. We could, therefore, know how to treat people like we want to be loved and develop a good sense of community and neighborliness.

In conclusion, as long as the old’s ideas are not old-fashioned, they are still useful in the youth’s approach to the modern world.
