QUESTION: Thanks to the development of technology, many employers are now offering employees the option to work from home. Is this a positive or negative development?
Technological advances have brought about significant changes in our lives; some have had negative impacts, while others have been advantageous. One such beneficial development is that employers can now afford to allow those they hire to work remotely. In this essay, I will explain why I think that the aforementioned trend is a positive one.
This change confers a huge advantage to employees, which is that they have the option of working in a stress-free, loving, and caring environment — their home. This means that while carrying out their jobs, they are constantly surrounded by loved ones — their daughters, sons, and most importantly, their wives — boosting their happiness. A few years ago, for example, when I was doing a very challenging task at home, the difficulty of the task never got to me and I was always relaxed, probably because my wife took good care of me and seeing my daughters smile made it almost impossible for me to feel stressed.
Employers also benefit from this trend: they do not have to invest much money and time in providing comfort to employees and monitoring them. It costs a lot of money to build offices and provide amenities for workers, for instance. This trend has made it possible for employers to ignore those things as allowing employees to work from home means that they are not responsible for providing a place for their staff to work in. As a result, employers make more profit. As was stated earlier, employers do not have to spend much time checking on the people they hire, leading to employers having much free time. Because they and their employees do not work in the same place, they do not feel compelled to monitor them at frequent intervals.
In conclusion, the development in question is beneficial to both employers and employees, and is thus positive. Specifically, employees can now work in a relaxing and loving environment, and remote working saves employers money as well as time.
