Some people believe that visitors to other countries should follow local customs and behavior. Others disagree and think that the host country should welcome cultural differences.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

People have many different views about keeping and developing national cultures. Some suggest that tourists respect the tradition and customs of the host country because it is regarded as an exceptional delicacy, while it is also believed that the host nation ought to accept visitors’ cultural differences as encouraging the volumes of foreigners, thereby leading to the international relationships.

On one hand, welcoming new interesting cultures from visitors would be beneficial to developing the tourism industry. If the government and local people show a willingness to embrace new cultures, visitors are likely to sense your hospitality, which is a motivation to pay a regular visit to this country. This will make them feel right at home and excited from putting their feet in a traditional destination. To illustrate, Ho Chi Minh City, a well-known cosmopolitan environment has a diversity of local customs of three regions in Vietnam as well as western culture. It is actually home to people from Vietnam and others, which attracts a huge number of visitors and businessmen annually.

On the other hand, I do believe visitors should adapt to cultural differences in many countries. This expresses their knowledge and respect towards the host country. A good illustration is that in Indian culture, cows are the most sacred animals worshiped as gods. Consequently, eating beef in Indian, especially in the Hindu community is considered to be fairly offensive. In addition, in some eastern countries, for example, not taking their shoes off in the house seems to be quietly impolite while it is ordinary in western behavior. Moreover, it is mandatory to comply with legal rules. To illustrate, in Singapore, if people chew gum or litter in public, they will be punished regardless of the visitors.

In conclusion, visitors had better follow and adapt to local customs and the host nation should be open to the cultural diversity of the newcomers.
