Some people think that art (such as painting and music) does not directly improve quality of people’s life, so the government should spend money on other areas. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Over the past decades, taxes distribution has never ceased to draw public attention and provoke debates. Although artworks and music have long been a great type of entertainment for people, the issue as to whether should governments continued fund for this type of entertainment or not remains controversial. To the best of my knowledge, entertainment services are one of the main essential factors in life that cannot be absent.

Firstly, it is important to recognize that artworks and music play an important role in people life when it comes to the reduction of stress, depression or any other mental illnesses. Many may argue that there are many other social aspects like education, infrastructures that need to be funded instead of sentimental aspect. This argument could be true to some extent. However, they should take into account the fact that hustle and bustle life in contemporary society has made more and more people susceptible to mental illnesses because of economic pressures and family pressures which is the main factors accountable for the going down considerably of productivity and resulting in unstable income. For example, researches show that people who spend time for entertainments always have higher productivity and happiness in life and create more valuable products than those who immerse in working.

Secondly, it is equally important to recognize that artworks and music products play an important role in economic growth by export cultural value to overseas. Many may argue that the benefits of selling artworks and media products do not bring benefits to society but just a certain group of people. This argument is true to some extent. Nevertheless, they are ignorant of the fact that the more popular country images, the more opportunity in selling products to other countries will be. For example, Korean have advertised widely their singers, actors, actresses in order to bring their music and movies to neighbouring countries with the aim to export domestic products to overseas.

In conclusion, It is clear that the roles of arts and media products are undeniable as it not only has duties in increasing mental health in order to help people recharge to have higher productivity but also increasing national budget from export cultural and selling products as mentioned above
