a. Walking down the street, my eyes were drawn to a diamond in a store window.

b. A small red car pulled up behind the woman with tinted windows.

c. The man in the black cape mounted his powerful stallion and it galloped away.

d. The cats chased the birds around the yard with the yellow beaks.

I know 'a' is not correct but which is correct among b, c, and d. why other are not properly structured?

In multiple-choice tests there could be several answers that are feasible in some way but you have to pick the best answer - it can be tricky to pick the one best answer.

1. a. is the best of the four answers. b. is not possible - you never say "the duller parade...turned into..." This is in the realm of possibility, but to say "the dullest parade..." is unusual. c. is not possible, the word "sudden" is not grammatical.

2. a. is the best answer. b. is not good because it looks like you have a "woman with tinted windows." c. is within the realm of possibility, but it's awkward; the "it" in "it galloped away" should be deleted. d. is not good because it looks like you have a "yard with yellow beaks."

1 is now clear to me but 2 is still with a little hesitation. Please read below sentence and compair it with 2 (a) for me.

According my grammar book:

"Walking along the road, a dead cow was seen."

this sentence is not correct due to improper sentence structure. Beacause verbal phrase "walking along" is not modifying its subject in the Main Clause "a dead cow was seen." Other hand below sentence is correct as the verbal phrase " Walking along" modify its subject "I" in the Main clause " I saw a dead cow."

Walking along the road, I saw a dead cow. Or, I saw a dead cow walking along the road.

Am I right?

Now, I can't appreciate the point in the sentence 2 (a)-- "Walking down the street, my eyes were drawn to a diamond in a store window."

Where verbal phrase "walking down" is modifying "my eyes" instead of its subject "leg". Now provide me a good solution as you done before.

Or, I saw a dead cow walking along the road. Am I right? -- No, I saw [a dead cow walking along the road]. You still have "walking along the road" modifying "dead cow." Unless you are seeing ghosts, don't use this one.

As I was walking down the street, my eyes were -- You can insert a subject into the first clause.

You'll have to add a word (or completely rewrite), because "I" was walking, but your noun choices are "my eyes," "diamond," and "store window." So simply rearranging the sentence won't help.

Having said all this, common sense rules over grammar. We know it was not your eyes, not the store, nor the diamond walking down the street. While a close analysis of sentences like this might make us giggle, your information will not be lost if you write or speak this way spontaneously.

My choices:# 1 Dullest parade suddenly turned into the wildest party

For #2 No, the phrase modified "I", who couldn't resist the diamond.
However, it appeared to have no correct answer to choose from for obvious reasons given by other posters. The adverbials were incorrectly constructed into the answer sentences.

I cannot understand how 2.a. can be the correct answer? I also cannot understand why correct answer will not be 2.c? Anybody here to explain, please?
