Looking at the graph, it is immediately obvious that the amount of CO2 in Italy and Portugal increased while this number in the UK and Sweden decreased. Throughout the period, the CO2 in UK registered the highest figures out of for countries examined.
In 1967, the rate of CO2 in the UK stood at about 11 tonnes, this figure nearly unchanged before dropping to approximately 9 tonnes by 2007. However, the amount of CO2 in Sweden rose quickly to reach a peak of over 10 tonnes in 1997 from roughly 9 tonnes in 1967, which was followed by a remarkable decrease of nearly 5 tonnes at the end of period.
At the beginning of period, the average amount of CO2 in Italy registered over 4 tonnes, this figure witnessed a progressive rise to nearly 8 tonnes between 1967 and 1997 and then maintained at 8 tonnes at the end of period. The rate of CO2 in Portugal showed a similar development, where it went up from 1 tonnes to 5 tonnes from 1967 to 1997 before stabilizing at about 5 tonnes afterwards.
