Please HELP me!!!!!!!!

Hi,

I'm studying English and I'm very confused by something!! I thought someone could possibly help me here?

1. What had pleased her most was her son's wedding.

2. What pleased her most was her son's wedding.

3. What pleased her most is her son's wedding.

What is the difference between these three sentences?

Which is the most natural, or are they all natural?

THANK YOU for any advice you can give me!! Sincerely, Keiko

Without context it is nearly impossible to say which is most natural. I don't think I would say the third one, but in the right situation either the first or the second are quite natural. You would have to be speaking from the point of view of the past to say the first one, as when relating events in the past, then perhaps suddenly remembering her attitude about her son's wedding, which had taken place even earlier than the events you were currently relating.
