I'm taking English Literature class now, I'm so confused about "iambic" and "alliteration"(not sure spell right), can anyone explain a little bit?

My Mother's Maiden name is Smith.

...

A iambic is a special intonation in a line of a poem but I don't know any details about this, sorry.
