please help - Do I need "a" or not?

I would say "Some animals have very high intelligence", but "Some animals have a very high intelligence" seems not so weird. paco

Sorry but I myself don't know exact rules. I have learned "intelligence" in the sense of the faculty to understand is an uncountable noun. But some native speakers use it as if it is a countable noun. So…
