Please help determine the following sentence items

Please help determine if the following phrase / clauses in the bold have modifying or complementary functions to the previous phrases in each sentence (i.e.: student / great respectivelly)

He is a student preparing for the exam.

It is great that you are here.

"Student" and "great" are subject complements ("is" is the linking verb in both cases).

The phrases "preparing for the exam" and "that you are here" are both complementary adjective phrases modifying, respectively, "student" and "great."
