Please help correct

Dear teachers,
Could you possibly help correct the sentence below?

Situation: Yesterday Mr White's manager asked him to come to the company to be on duty .But Mr A didn't come as requested .Today he comes to the company and meet his manager,His manager looks very angry .

Mr A: Good morning, sir.
Manager( looks very angry) : Why didn't you come until today? You were supposed to phone me if you couldn't come, but you didn't.

Situation: Yesterday Mr White's manager asked him to come to the company to be on duty . We usually just say 'He asked him to come to work'. We don't commonly speak of work as 'duty'.

But Mr A didn't come as requested .Today he comes to the company and meet his manager,His manager looks very angry .

Present tense does not fit well here.

I suggest 'Why did you come today, but not yesterday?'

The coming today happened prior to the time of the question.
