In a short story “The Storm” by Kate Chopin, there are two storms. The first storm is scary and destructive whereas the second storm is caused by desire of two ex-lovers Calixta and Alcee Laballiere. As Calixta’s husband and son are stuck at a store buying her shrimps, Calixta and Laballierre are having an affair. The second storm does not destroy characters’ belongings, but their marriages’ faith and trust. However, Chopin makes here audiences forget the mistake Calixta and Laballere are making. She describes the characters feel delighted and happier after the affair. “Calixta, on the gallery, watched Alcee ride away. He turned and smiled at her with a beaming face; and she lifted her pretty chin in the air and laughed aloud.” Furthermore, Calixta does not show any sign of regret when her husband and son return home. She is described to be very cheerful and full of energy. This story can leave its reader an uncomfortable feeling that the affair is not only justifiable, but it also can make one more happy than a trust worthy marriage.

thanks~
