Essay & Composition Writing

Please help!

My homework assignment was to write several sentence describing a recent interaction with a friend or family member about personal finance or credit cards. Use at least five different pronouns, adverbs, and adjectives. I don't think that what I came up with is enough but I'm not sure how to fix it. Any suggestions? Here goes:

Recently, my boyfriend and I had a short talk about our credit cards. We decided, in the beginning of the year, to pay off the balances before taking our family vacation this summer. While going through mine and his statements I was pleasantly surprised to hear him say, "this months payment will be our last." Luckily for us, we've only used the credit cards for emergencies. Because of that restraint we have been able to stay out of serious debt.
