Please help...

Does anyone know the word that describes words that have no hidden letters ie hand, mat, dog, etc, as opposed to words like gnome, knife, etc?

Many thanks in advance,

James.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't think it's that. Given that I work in telecommunications, I'm sure it would have dawned on me before now. To phonetically spell, for example dog, would be to say "Delta Oscar Golf".

Hi,

We had a recent, and rather brief, discussion about this. If you search for the word 'phonographic', you'll find the thread.

Such letters are called 'silent letters', so you could just say 'words with no silent letters'.

Best wishes, Clive

Thank you, Clive. You're a scholar and a gentleman. It's nice to know not everyone one this site is a pleb! Take care and, again, thank you.
